PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE(S)

Pondered this thing called “Presidential Debate(s)” every four years for over half a century. The 2012 Romney/Obama debates and the Republican Party debate in August were enough to encourage some commentary. In the first place, they ain’t presidential debates. In the second place, they ain’t debates. In the so called debates between Romney and Obama……there wasn’t,  technically, a president in the so called debates. Yup, Obama was actually President, but he wasn’t there, included, participating as a President….he was there as the nominee of the Democrat Party……but not as a President. And, Romney was certainly not there as a President…..but as the Republican Party nominee. So, no matter how you spin it, no matter what you call it……..it wasn’t  Presidential Debate(s). It was, is,  political party nominee debates. PERIOD ! And so it is, was, for the August Republican Party so called Presidential Debate. There wasn’t one, not one, of the participants who is President. Therefore it can’t be a Presidential Debate. It might be called a Candidate, or Nominee, Debate……if it was a debate. But, it wasn’t a debate. Just like the 2012 Romney/Obama events weren’t debates.  Here’s the skinny. The so called debates are nothing more than some people who are famous as a result of their television performances asking questions of those people who want to get nominated by a political party to actually vie for, “run” for, try to get elected as the President. There is no debate…….period. The people asking the questions are even called “moderators” even though they ain’t moderating anything……just asking questions. And what’s even worse is that the people asking the questions don’t really ask questions. They usually make some kind of rambling statement attempting to reveal something untoward about the person to which they will eventually pose a very short question. A perfect example is what Megyn Kelly did to Donald Trump in the August Republican Party event.  Ain’t gonna get into the weeds about that except to say that it was something apparently designed and intended to create an impression. The three non-moderators, Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier and Chris Wallace, all three of them, appeared to enjoy their authority to interrogate rather than actually moderate what wasn’t a debate. The worst example of what might be called “moderator’s abuse” was when Candy Crowley (CNN star) asserted, injected,  herself into the 2012 Romney/Obama event which changed the course of history…..and she wasn’t even reprimanded for her shameful intrusion. The point is…..none of these events are debates and none of these people asking questions are moderators and none of the attendees are presidents. I’m amazed that  not one of the media stars who have been non-moderators of the non-presidential non-debates has ever publicly commented on the fact that they ain’t moderators in events that ain’t presidential and ain’t debates. Is it possible that none of them are astute enough to know they ain’t moderators and the events ain’t presidential and ain’t debates? I think they all, every last one of them, know……but are willing, eager, to participate in the flim-flam just to enhance their respective careers, popularity, legacy. All of these events have become nothing more than disgusting spectacles degrading what is certainly one of the important elements necessary to continue what was started two and a half centuries ago.
