AOC Theatre

AOC, that’s the easily recognized “nickname” of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez the Representative from  New York States’ fourteenth Congressional District. THEATER, that’s “a dramatic presentation to intentionally direct a desired focus on an event”.

In other words, a theatrical performance, scripted or ad-lib, to create a less than accurate representation of an event………but not quite being an outright lie. AOC did exactly that. She did approximately ninety minutes of “Instagram Live Talk” about her experience during the January sixth assault on the Capitol Building. The AOC “performance” was really something to see and hear. AOC outdid herself with her physical performance. Waving her hands. Flailing her arms.  Wriggling her fingers. Her facial expressions. Rolling her eyes. Widening her eyes. Excessive body language.

Since the camera was in a fixed position, she would lunge towards the camera for close-ups. Vocal volume variations to give drama to her verbal accompaniment. Appropriate dramatic pauses. Very skillfully delivering a dramatic, theatrical performance. Making certain that you, the audience, were convinced that she was actually in fear for her life.

What may be worse than the AOC “show” is that  Glenn Kessler and Adriana Usero co-authored an article in the Washington Post DEFENDING the AOC performance. Well, as it is now known, AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a United States Representative, was not even in the Capitol  Building when it was breached by a small group of rioters. She was in her Cannon Office Building Office before, during, and after the event. Along with several other United States Representatives. In her “Instagram Live Talk”, AOC attempted to leave you with the impression that she was actually in the middle of that January sixth event. In harm’s way. In the thick of the riot. In her defense, she did tell you she was in her office in another building. Even hiding in her bathroom.  But, she made certain you would go away with the impression she was in a death threatening situation. Which WAS NOT TRUE.

The Cannon Office Building is across the street from the Capitol Building. Hundreds of feet away connected only by a tunnel under the street. Approximately a ten minutes walk away. And there was not one, NOT ONE, rioter anywhere near the Cannon Office Building. No doubt AOC and the other Representatives in their offices in the Cannon Office Building were aware of the rioting across the street. No doubt they were in a traumatic situation. But the AOC theatrical presentation was meant to be more than letting you know how bad the situation was. It was AOC taking advantage of a situation to aggrandize herself. Make herself more important. Bringing the spotlight on AOC. She even accused Ted Cruz of trying to kill her.  Not exactly a fact. Okay, AOC didn’t exactly lie to you. But she sure as hell gave a theatrical performance.

It was not a political speech to endorse or support some government policy. It was nothing but…………. AOC THEATER.
